The Kona Kohala Chamber of Commerce presented its prestigious Visitor Industry Marketing Award to Greenwell Farms at the Chamber’s Annual Membership Meeting and Luncheon on Friday, June 28. The Kona Kohala Chamber’s Visitor Industry Marketing Award recognized Greenwell Farms for its commitment to ag tourism that engages visitors with an authentic Kona coffee farm experience and its multi-faceted ag tourism marketing campaign overseen by fourth-generation farmers Tom and Jennifer Greenwell.

Since 1979, the Kona Kohala Chamber of Commerce has recognized West Hawaii visitor industry leaders for their promotional efforts of Hawaii’s leading industry—tourism. The Chamber’s Visitor Industry Marketing Award acknowledged Greenwell Farms for its successful marketing efforts in attracting national and international media, travel agent and industry familiarization (FAM) tours from Hawaii’s major market areas that assist in keeping the Kona coffee farm experience top-of-mind while providing a viable connection to Kona’s storied coffee history.

“We are so honored to accept this prestigious Marketing Award from the Kona Kohala Chamber of Commerce. Greenwell Farms welcomes visitors to our coffee farm every day from around the world and it’s our pleasure to share Kona’s nearly 200 years of coffee heritage, its unique coffee growing season, harvesting and processing methods with visitors and kamaaina alike,” said Greenwell Farms President Tom Greenwell. “We appreciate our family of tour guides, certified roasters and millers and farm hands who share our aloha and love for Kona coffee.”

The farm was further recognized by the Chamber for its success in garnering more than 5.9 million media impressions over the past two years including a recent eight-page spread in Islands magazine. Greenwell Farms has also been featured in such visitor publications as United Airline’s Hemispheres magazine, USA Today, Hawaiian Airlines Hana Hou magazine, Al Jazeera English television, MBC TV Korea, Travel Channel’s Samantha Brown, Sydney Morning Herald (Australia), Seattle Metropolitan, Portland Monthly and San Diego magazine. These national and international stories captured and communicated the island destination, the Kona Kohala coast and a Kona coffee farm ag tourism experience to a targeted audience that translates to opportunities for increased visitor arrivals, longer stays and repeat visitors.
